Welcome to SAGE
The mission of SAGE is to empower Afghan women and girls to reach their full potential through access to high quality education.
Support for Afghan Girls' Education (SAGE) is a Rhode Island 501(C)3 nonprofit that provides financial and program support to girls and young women in Afghanistan. Since the Taliban takeover in August 2021, girls over the age of 12 have been forbidden to attend school.
We are currently supporting more than120 female students through a licensed Educational Center in Kabul which provides onsite instruction in English language arts and computer skills for girls age 13-16 and advanced online instruction in a broader range of subjects that allow students to sit for exams to obtain a US General Educational Development (GED) degree.
Importantly, the educational center also provides a safe and joyful haven for our students who are unable to walk the streets without a male escort, gather in public, or legally go to school due to the unimaginably repressive Taliban regime.
Nevertheless, the students and their families believe that education is worth the risk.
In 2025, our first class of eight GED (General Educational Development) students received their US high school diplomas.
Twelve students are now enrolled in a US online university.
Another 23 GED students are taking tests and expect to enroll in an US online university by September 2026.
A third GED class has begun and is set to graduate students in the spring of 2027.
We have demonstrated that we can prepare girls age 13-16 with the English language skills necessary to succeed in our GED class, graduate them with a US High School diploma and enroll them with full scholarships in accredited online universities. These girls are building their future. You can help.
"Education is the most powerful weapon that I can use to change the world."
-Fatima, age 17
We have been able to provide desks, chairs, computers and internet access, along with academic support. Help us make more possible.
SAGE also advocates for Afghan women and girls by calling attention to and documenting Taliban abuses, particularly of the Hazara, some 8 million Shi'a Dari speaking people inside Afghanistan.

Please consider supporting our work through a donation. We promise to use your donation wisely to impact as many girls as we can in the safest way possible.
